The Historic Filipinotown 5K Run/Walk (and festival), now in it's fifth year, showcases this neighborhood as a vibrant panel in the rich tapestry of neighborhoods that makes up Los Angeles. The neighborhood received its "Historic Filipinotown" designation through a unanimous Los Angeles City Council vote, led by Council President Eric Garcetti in 2002. It is home to 60% Latinos, 20% Filipinos and with the remaining 20% from an even more diverse group of ethnicities. Residents and business owners in the area see this festival and 5K Run/Walk as a means to build a strong community through sharing of cultural dances, songs, food and other artistic expressions. A standard part of the day is a bus tour which explains "What is Filipino in Historic Filipinotown?"

The event is organized by the Historic Filipinotown Neighborhood Council, 501(c)3 nonprofit group in collaboration with numerous other community organizations and businesses including (partial list) Pilipino Network and Advocacy, Historic Filipinotown Chamber of Commerce, SIPA, Filipino American Library, FASGI, FACLA, Silver Lake Medical Center, Silver Lake Adult Day Health Care, People's CORE, the Greater Echo Park Elysian Neighborhood Council and Temple Westlake Neighborhood Development Corporation.
